Charles City County Special Events Permit

Charles City County requires this permit for Trail events with 50+ participants that go through Charles City County. If you are using a portion of the Charles City section of the Trail for your event then you must complete the application linked above.  For questions, contact Sheri Adams with the CCC Community Development Department (sadams@charlescityva.us).

Henrico County Parade & Special Events Permits

If you're using the Trail and crossing Route 5 or any local road in Henrico County, you will need a Parade/Marathon Permit from Henrico County. Applications must be submitted 30 days prior to the event. For more information visit the Henrico County Police website linked above. For questions, contact Officer Hundley (HUN05@henrico.us). 

Please note that if your event utilizes Dorey Park or Four Mile Creek, a separate Henrico Rec and Parks Special Event Permit is needed.

James City County Special Events Permit

If you are hosting an event on the James City County section of the Trail, click to the above link to see if your event requires a special events permit. Applications for a Special Event Permit should be completed in the PermitLink system at least 90 days in advance of the proposed event. For questions, contact Beth Klapper (Beth.Klapper@jamescitycountyva.gov). 

VDOT Land Use Permit

Click the link above to see if your event requires a LUP-SE (Special Event) permit from the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). Events using the Trail require an LUP-SE if the event is considered “large-scale” (more than 120+ riders or runners), obstructs traffic, or has trail-side water stops. To confirm whether your event requires a Land Use Permit, you may contact Hunter Goodman at 804-585-3587 or hunter.goodman@vdot.virginia.gov.
